Passion Flowers & Fruit

The Passion flowers are grown on a vine, and the fruit can be eaten. My granddaughter enjoys eating the pops but usually buys the matured fruit since her mom’s pops end up as Passion flowers before they have a chance to make the pops. When I was growing up on the farm, we would play ball with the fruit. I did not know at that time that they were such good herbs. We called them May Pops because they just might pop when you get one thrown at you. The flower is harvested and dried for teas and tinctures. This is the combination that I use that includes the Passion flower and California Poppy.

AI list the following benefits of Passion Flowers:

California Poppy

The California Poppy flower makes a beautiful display in the garden. To use in the tincture the flower must be harvested when it is in full bloom. The second picture is the dried flowers. Now it is ready to make the tincture. It is placed in a dark place 4 to 6 weeks before it is ready for use. The dried herbs are placed in containers and covered with a liquid. This liquid is 1 of these three: Vodka, Vegetable Glycerin, or Vinegar.

The picture below is one of several cabinets that my daughter has for processing her herbs. If you are new to herb growing and want to learn more she recommends this book by Rosemary Gladstar. Click on the link below as I am an Amazon Associate and receive credit for clicks or purchases.
